I have a new shop!

by Jessica

I’ve been working on this for quite some time, and I’ve been meaning to do it for even longer! I’ve made a new shop!

I’ve been selling through Society6 for a little more than a year, and it wasn’t until I properly ordered something for myself that I realised that I wanted to “move”. I had previously only ordered a phone case, which I have loved even though a part of the plastic broke the second day.

And then a few months later I ordered a few prints, and when the tube got home my heart sank. It said “SOCIETY6” literally all over it, and when opening it they had included several stickers to promote themselves. It was undoubtedly so that this package was something that Society6 sent (which – to be fair – it was) and the only way to even learn who actually MADE the art you had to check the packing slip, where the title and my name was written next to the products.

Not that big of a deal to most, I guess, but it didn’t feel right to me. When I’ve made something I don’t just want part of the profit, I want the credit. Additionally I didn’t enjoy that I couldn’t price the products myself (just the prints) and the actual prints I ordered didn’t look amazing. My works are reeeeeeally detailed and in these prints they didn’t really show.

Okay this is turning out to be really wordy, and I haven’t even gotten to the point. Because I found Printful! Printful also prints and ships the products for you, but you decide if you want to be on Etsy, Tictail, your own website or something else. You get more of the profit, the tubes have your own branding (!) and you can even include a little note inside the package where you can thank people for purchasing or whatever you want.

The best part though? The prints look AMAZING.

So you can now buy my prints via my own domain (!) over on https://jandersdotter.com/shop/

I haven’t uploaded everything yet as it takes forever, but the first ever order to be placed through my built shop was delivered just yesterday (to me) and it all looked amazing. I did order product samples earlier this year, but wanted to try out the payment through my site and stuff! (Spoiler: it works!)

A change that some people might not be super hyped about with this is that my art will no longer be sold in any other form than prints. While Printful does offer phone cases and T-Shirts etc I’ve come to realise that I do not want my art to be sold as decoration on objects, but to be sold as ~art~. Do you get what I mean? The pieces change meaning when they’re printed on a shirt, and even though phone cases look cool, it just doesn’t feel good to sell my art – which is so close to my heart – that way. Also the actual phone cases from Printful weren’t that great, but still.

So yeah, all in all I’m very happy. It’ll be interesting to see if I got all my sales through the Society6 search function or if they’re ~my people~, but no matter what I’m really glad I made this change!

Now I just need to figure out where to hang these two. Buy your own prints here. And if a piece you want isn’t on there yet – tell me and I’ll upload it. (Except for a few that are to be limited edition + for art exhibitions. :))
