creative challenge 2015

by Jessica

Creative Challenge 2015 - join me each week and create something based on a material or a technique.

Time for me to –  yet again – take up my creative challenge! It was initially started in November 2014, but was kind of resurrected in April this year and then died again pretty quickly. Rest in peace, Challenge. Anyway, I got through a few more points on my list that spring but didn’t get very far, mostly because one step just went HORRIBLE and I hated everything for a while. But now I’m performing another demonic ritual and trying to resurrect this beast once and for all! Wish me luck.

What’s the challenge?

I’ve made a list of (currently) almost 20 different techniques/materials for me to have as a starting point for when I want to create something. This list contains everything from making something in the computer to making something out of wool, and is supposed to help me get started. A lot of times I just get overwhelmed by all the possibilities and just don’t do anything.

But here’s the thing – as a multi-creator (that’s my new word for it, fancy huh?) I find inspiration from trying out new materials and techniques. So this is very important for my creativity, and even though it might not turn into something spectacular every time, it helps me stay creative and gives me more ideas in the end.

Creative Challenge 2014-2015:

Create something…
1. out of a book ✔
2. out of newspaper clippings ✔
3. using a computer ✔
4. out of wool ✔
5. out of glue ✔
6. out of words
7. old piece of clothing
8. out of a box
9. with a needle
10. out of things you find in the kitchen
11. out of something you would’ve thrown away
12. out of polymer clay
13. out of paper
14. with embroidery
15. using crochet
16. that is a collage
17. by destroying something else
18. ???
19. ???
20. ???
21. success

As you can see I’ve gone through 5 points in the list! I decided that the 5. Make something out of glue was done even though that’s where I failed miserably, because I’m simply not starting this challenge out with trying to create something out of glue again. Like it’s stupid, I use glue ALL THE TIME, but it wasn’t a good place to start because it just confused me and didn’t work. Too bad glue, I hate you now. (jk ilysm <3)

Create something every week

So here’s where I’m going to make this challenge actually work this time – I’m going to finish one of these every week. Initially I was like “OH YEAH ONCE A DAY” but that’s insane and I won’t ever be able to create something good because some of these things take time and I have to study and it’s not that kind of challenge.

Wanna join?

I know a bunch of you out there are creators like me, you’re part of Monthly Makers and I mean I’ve read your blogs. Any of these points seem interesting? Join me! I’ll be posting the result of my previous week every Monday and of course then remind you all of what the next theme is. If you decide to join, just comment on one of these posts. It’s kind of like Monthly Makers, but smaller and not as cool.
